A second half goal by debutant Kwanda Mngonyama earned Maritzburg United a 2-1 win over Polokwane City at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Team of Choice found themselves under pressure early on in the game as Rendani Ndou and then Puleng Tloane threatened during the opening exchanges.

But the hosts were in front when Mohau Mokate slotted home after some good work from Kurt Lentjies and Thami Mkhize .

However, the Limpopo side were to hit back when Tlolane slammed home a free kick 10 minutes before the break.

Just after the break both teams saw their numbers reduced to 10 after former Maritzburg defender Elias Ngwepe and Mokate were both sent off.

Mngonyama then put the PMB side back in front when he got on the end of an inswinging corner with a 60th minute header.

Ashley Hartog nearly gave United a third goal, but his well-struck effort deflected wide of goal as the hosts continued to look the more dangerous side late on in the game.
