| Komphela: So far, so good, but…
Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela is happy with the start his side has made, but stresses that there is still a lot of room for improvement.
The Team of Choice have taken four points from their opening two Absa Premiership encounters, a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns and a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City.
Heading into Wednesday night’s clash with Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg are in third spot on the PSL table, despite having started the season with a handful of rookie players in the starting line-up.
“I think they have acquitted themselves very well. [But] we created so many chances and we couldn’t convert. On any other day a team could come and equalise and then we would be saying ‘if only’. By then it would be too late. We need to take our chances,” Komphela said after the win over Polokwane.
“It is so far so good, but now we need to maintain our level of fitness. Maybe we will organise a practice match so that the guys who haven’t played more than 60 minutes get something.”
In team news, Komphela will have a couple of extra options available to him after the Team of Choice’s foreign contingent received their work permits.
