BACK AT WORK WITH A PURPOSE
6 January 2014
MUFC Marketing and Communications Manager Brian Zuma gets things rolling for the second half of the season with his latest column…
Compliments of the New Season. Hoping that you all had a great and safe festive season and of course a well deserved rest. We are aware of the fatalities that took place, especially on our roads during this time. Our deepest condolences to all that were affected. Hoping that 2015 will bring nothing but love, peace and happiness, as well as lots of prosperity, which we must still work hard to achieve.
We are back to business as from the 5th of January 2015, in office and in training. We are coming back with more hunger and determination to achieve what we have set for ourselves this season, to finish in the Top Eight.
We wanted to go to the festive break being on 25 points. We were one point short to achieve that, which means we basically did well relative to our target at break. Having said that, we are also aware that we dropped several points that we should have picked, especially at home in the last six games.
The matches against Moroka Swallows, Tuks, AmaZulu, Sundowns and Polokwane City, are matches we could and should have done better in collecting points. The chances we created and missed cost us a lot of points, and we could have easily gone to the break on 30 or more points. I know that the missed chances got our Head Coach very worried, especially because the boys were playing very well, except to convert.
All of that is now water under the bridge. We have thirteen games left for us to play and achieve our target. Six of those will be played at home. It will be very critical for us to turn Harry Gwala Stadium into a slaughter house that it was at the beginning of the season, and i know for a fact that the boys will be determined to make the Coach happy, by making up for the hiccups of the last few games before break.
The Coach and his Technical Team have put together a formidable side that is very competitive. Once we can get our magic right in front of goal, opposition will be in trouble against us.
Congratulations to Mondli Cele for having been called for the National camp where Bafana Bafana Head Coach was to select his final team for AFCON. Even though he did not make it, to have been called there, means there is something the coach has noticed in him. Remember this is Mondli’s first season in top flight football. Congratulations Ndosi.
Also, congratulations are in order for Kwanda Mngonyama for his several call ups to the national side as well. Kwandakwezinsizwa is only 21, there are many years of International football that lie ahead of him. He must just keep working hard. Mahommad Awal is another player who has been regularly called for National Duty, the tall Ghanaian also works very hard and that has earned him regular call ups.
To all our supporters and fans, we thank you for the support you gave us, especially at home during the first stanza of the season. We are now entering the last stanza. We will need your support even more, especially at home. You are our 12th player on the stands, please keep coming to our home games to cheer the boys to victory.
