Maritzburg braced for tough Students test

Maritzburg United return to league action after a lengthy break when they take on Bidvest Wits at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday, 10 February 2015.
The Team of Choice go into the match in seventh position on the Absa Premiership standings, while the Clever Boys lie third.
Maritzburg will be out to avoid a third consecutive defeat in the league after losing 2-1 to both Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City in their final two matches of 2015, while Bidvest Wits took four points from their last two games.
United are expected to have a clean bill of health for the game, while Gavin Hunt’s side welcomes back midfielder Papy Faty from a long term injury. The JHB club have also signed Ethiopian striker Fikru Tefera, while allowing Erwin Isaacs and Toriq Losper to join Ajax Cape Town.
Maritzburg defender John Paintsil feels that the seven week break period has allowed the team to regroup and refresh, and come back stronger for the second half of the season.
“Overall, we did well in the first round,” said Paintsil, “but we did not end the year very well, dropping too many points.
“But we have been able to come together, see where things had gone wrong, and the coach has done well to direct and advise us how to get back to where we need to be.
“We have played around eight friendly matches during the break, so we have some good rhythm and are ready to go on Tuesday when the match against Bidvest Wits kicks off.”
