Maritzburg United 1-2 Bidvest Wits
10 February 2015

Maritzburg United gave away an early lead to lose 2-1 to Bidvest Wits at the Harry Gwla Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Clever Boys started the game well and had a few early chances through Sandile Zuke and Jabulani Shongwe.

The Team of Choice were to draw first blood when Ghana striker Mohamed Anas fired in a rasping drive from the edge of the box that flew past visiting keeper Moeneeb Josephs and into goal, following a pass from Ashley Hartog, 1-0 after 17 minutes.

The match was back on level terms when Bafana Bafana defender Thulani Hlatshwayo scored with a superbly taken 27th minute effort.

The Clever Boys then took the lead for the first time, in first half added time, when Ethiopian striker Fikru Tefera netted with a well-taken header from a corner kick.

Maritzburg keeper Virgil Vries made an excellent save eight minutes after the restart to ensure that Henrico Botes did not extend Wits' lead.

The closest United came to levelling the scores was 20 minutes from time when Thamsanqa Mkhize got on the end of a cross, only to see his header going just wide of the goal.
