Komphela hoping for Chiefs inspiration

Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela is hoping that the occasion of playing South Africa’s biggest club will inspire his side to victory.
The Team of Choice meet with AmaKhosi at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night having last won in the league back in December when they beat Orlando Pirates 2-1.
As a result, the Team of Choice have seen their top eight aims dissolving, the team having slipped to 10th position, five points off eighth placed Polokwane City.
But with nine games still to go this season, there is still plenty of time for Maritzburg to turn things around, and Komphela is optimistic that playing in front of a packed Harrry Gwala Stadium could inspire his players to cause a shock upset against log leader Chiefs.
“The beauty of the Chiefs match is that players rise to the occasion. It becomes more of an event than a football match. It will be packed here, the players are going to enjoy it and it is a beautiful night,” he told Kickoff.
The former Bafana Bafana and Chiefs central defender wants the Maritzburg players to try and take some confidence from their earlier displays this season, when the club found itself within the top five for most of the first half of the campaign.
“The only way is to remind them of all of the good work that they have done. We have exhausted all of the ways of not winning a match and the only thing left to do now is to win. That is inspiration.
"We are right at the bottom of the pit and we can’t sink anymore. It can’t get any worse, the only way is up,” he added.
