Davids says Maritzburg are ready for Chiefs challenge
3 August 2015

Maritzburg United begin their first ever top eight campaign when they take on Kaizer Chiefs in the 2015 MTN8.

The match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5 August (19H30) at the FNB Stadium near Soweto.

The teams faced each other three times last season in league and cup, with Chiefs winning their two home games while the Team of Choice recorded victory in Pietermaritzburg.

Going into Wednesday’s historical showdown, Maritzburg United will have a new-look technical teak at the helm, Mandla Ncikazi to be assisted by former Team of Choice marksman, Fadlu Davids.

Davids was under no illusions as to the enourmity of the task his side find themselves up against when they take on the defending MTN8 and Absa Premiership champions, but is upbeat about his side’s chances of causing an upset.

“It’s definitely a great achievement for the team as a whole. The team is doing very well and is very strong for this season,” he told Sport24.

“It’s not about the players individually but the team as a whole. We are a family.

“Kaizer Chiefs will obviously be a challenge for us as they are the defending champions. We hope to go further and do our best,” Davids stated.
