MARITZBURG UNITED DISKI TEAM CONTINUE WITH GOOD FORM
20 October 2015
Maritzburg United Marketing and Communications Brian Zuma reports back on the promising start the season the club's Reserve Team have made in the MDC.
"Despite a sluggish start by the Maritzburg United senior team in the PSL, the 'Maritzburg United Colts' as they are affectionately known, have made a good start in Multichoice Diski Challenge, currently lying position six on the log after five games with eight points, only five points behind log leaders Golden Arrows who are on 13 points.
"We have enough quality in this team to compete for the honours, come end of the season. Head Coach Siya Mdluli is working very hard with the boys to produce senior team material as demonstrated by the boys in every game they play.
"Many of these boys were identified from the several trials that we have had in the Province i.e Pietermaritzburg, uLundi, Richards Bay, and Ladysmith.
"As such, in the last game we played and won 2-0 against Cosmos on Saturday the 16th of Octoiber, six of the players are from Pietermaritzburg, namely Thami Duma, Qiniso Mahlobo, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Mlondi Dlamini, Lindokuhle Zondi and Ryan Moon.
"Altogether there were eight players from KZN that played in that game.
We are serious and committed to development particularly of football talent within Msunduzi and more so in KZN. Our vision to have a Development Academy, is borne from the fact that successful teams around the world, have their own development academies where they groom local talent from as young as six years of age.
"An academy will be our biggest contribution to football development in our City and Province, and is the best way through which we can see our own local talent in the senior team of Maritzburg United. That is our overall vision."
