Maritzburg United 0-2 Chippa United
21 October 2015
The footballing gods once more failed to smile on Maritzburg United as the Team of Choice were beaten 2-0 by Chippa United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Chilli Boys had the better of the opening exchanges and had chances through Ugonna Uzochukwu and William Twala, the former's effort wide, the latter's shot saved by Tawfeeq Salie.
Deolin Mekoa did his best to fire the Team of Choice in front, but he saw his powerful 36th minute shot saved by Chippa keeper Daniel Akpeyi.
Maritzburg were then forced into making a change as Salie had to be replaced by Virgil Vries a few minutes before half time.
United looked good after the break and were unfortunate not to score when Mohammed Anas was brilliantly denied by Akpeyi on 55 minutes, Ryan de Jongh then also being thwarted by the visiting keeper.
It was against the run of play that Chippa took the lead as Aristide Bance turned home a pass from Erick Chipeta on 74 minutes.
Chippa got their second goal two minutes from time when Mark Mayambela found the back of the net with a blistering free kick.
