United edge out Tuks to record first win
8 November 2015

There were some anxious moments late on, but Maritzburg United were able to hold on for a deserved 1-0 victory over AmaTuks in Pretoria on Sunday.

United scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game in the 13th minute when Evans Rusike picked up the ball 25-yards out and drove a powerful shot goal-wards, the ball taking a slight deflection before hitting the back of the net.

Team of Choice skipper Ashley Hartog sent a well-hit shot just over the bar before the home side looked to hit back, having chances through Atusaye Nyondo and Partson Jaure, but they failed to score.

The Tshwane team also went close through Lennox Bacela as continued to press for the equaliser.

The second half saw Maritzburg doing more of the defending, holding on as AmaTuks grew stronger.

United goalkeeper Tawfeeq Salie was in particularly fine form, making a string of superb reflex saves while also showing bravery in the air as the Pretoria side threw everything at the KZN team in the dying moments of the match.

Much to the delight of head coach Clive Barker, the Team of Choice were able to hold on for the three points as they notched their first league win of the season.
