MUFC duo out to help fulfill Olympic dream
24 November 2015
Maritzburg United players Kwanda Mngonyama and Deolin Mekoa are set to do battle in the upcoming CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
The competition is in Senegal (November 28 to December 12), the top three finishers earning a spot at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Mngonyama is in his second season with the Team of Choice, and was a mainstay in the centre of the United defence last season with his calm yet no-nonsense approach.
The Durban-born central defender, 22, also spent a season at Bidvest Wits, on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and has vast experience in the PSL and also a considerable amount of junior international matches under his belt.
Mekoa (22) is on his second season with the Team of Choice, having arrived via the Castle Lager Superstars talent scouting campaign. The KZN-born winger brings pace and skill to the United attack, a comiited approach making him a thorn in the flesh of any defence.
Mekoa was called by Shakes Mashaba to train with Bafana Bafana ahead of their international friendlies against Swaziland and Nigeria last year.
