Middendorp determined to deliver on mandate
4 January 2016

Newly appointed Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp has one thing on his mind: to ensure that the club remain in the Absa Premiership.

The vastly experienced German was officially appointed last week and will begin his third spell in charge of the Team of Choice when United face SuperSport United in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

“Out of our experience working together in the last years we know each other. The main focus from my side is the way forward - to make it happen that on the 21 May 2016 the team is in the PSL and that is my focus,” Middendorp said upon his appointment.

Going into 2016, Maritzburg are four points adrift of safety, but Middendorp is confident the side is good enough to climb to a position of safety.

“I believe that the quality of the team, the PSL quality, and the number of players in this squad should give us the base or foundation to make it happen, to pick up the necessary points to stay in the league.

“I'm convinced about this; I trust the direction, knowing most of the players, having worked with them or having seen them during the season,” he said.

The head coach is also confident that he has assembled a top notch technical team.

“We have convinced ourselves to make some changes in the technical team.

“Fadlu Davids will definitely be my main partner in discussions. We brought in Arthur Bartman, who will be in charge for the goalkeeping department. We have to announce the signing of Mahier Davids, who worked with me for the last four months, being in charge for technical, tactical work.”
