United sign Belgian keeper
29 January 2016
Soon after signing left back Tumelo Mogapi, Maritzburg United FC have added another player in their defence, this time a goalkeeper.
Belgian Glenn Verbauwhede (30), has signed with the team of Choice from Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of the season.
Since the departure of Shuaib Walters to Mpumalanga Aces, the Team of Choice has been left with Virgil Vries and Tawfeeq Salie in the last line of defence. Glenn has a permanent residence status in SA.
Talking to the communications Manager Brian Zuma yesterday, he had this to say, “The club is positioned way too low considering the quality of the team. I have been following the league closely and the results against Supersport and Orlando Pirates could have been better.
"The team needs a ghost that hangs on it for the last 10 to 15 minutes of the game.”
He continued: “I believe in this team, I am not scared, I know that we will get out of this situation. If i didn’t have hope, i would not have committed myself.”
Glenn says he is impressed with what he has seen at training. “I’ve seen quality and a lot of focus. Preparation is done like it should be done.”
He had a message to the fans as well, “ Be hopeful and hold on. Like we don’t give up, they should also not give up. Be the 13th man that you always are, the way that you were against Pirates”, concluded the keeper.
Maritzburg United play Mamelodi Sundowns this Saturday at Harry Gwala Stadium. Kick off is at 20h15.
