Match Preview: Maritzburg v Platinum Stars

Maritzburg United will be hoping to earn their first win of 2016 when they take on Platinum Stars at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday night, 20h15.

 

Fortune has not been on the Team of Choice's side this year, United going into Saturday's match on the back of defeats to Mamelodi Sundowns, Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs.

On eight points, Maritzburg are six points from climbing to safety on the Absa Premiership standings, with 13 matches to play. The do have a game in hand on the four teams directly above them on the standings.

Dikwena meanwhile have been in good form, and are fifth on the Absa Premiership log with 30 points from 17 matches.

 

The first round affair between the two sides in Rustenburg ended in a 1-1 draw, while overall, Stars have 10 wins, Maritzburg five, with four matches drawn in the head-to-head stats.

 

Eleazar Rodgers and Ndumiso Mabena have netted nine league goals between them this season, making them the most obvious threats for the visiting side. Evans Ruske (3) and Kurt Lentjies (3) have been United's top goal getters.
