Middendorp: We are showing progress
22 February 2016
Head Coach Ernst Middendorp knows there is still lots of work to be done, but was able to breathe a little easier after Sunday's win over Bloemfontein Celtic.
Just a second league victory of the season took the Team of Choice up to 12 points, one behind AmaTuks, and five behind Jomo Cosmos, United also enjoying a game in hand on the both these teams.
Pogiso Sanoka's 73rd minute header was enough for Maritzburg to claim maximum points against Celtic, Middendorp's joy and passion evident as he charged along the touchline after the goal.
The Maritzburg coach, who returned to the club less than two months ago, concedes there is still room for improvement, but feels his side are on the right track.
“I said it before, six and half weeks preparation time (since he arrived), while having to play games at the same time....,” he said.
"There has been progress over the weeks, we have seen it already. In certain moments we made mistakes, no doubt about it.
“It was not a fantastic game, but a successful game, and the three points is what we needed, to come closer to the two teams above us, we want to come closer to them come the end of May."
United are next in action on Wednesday this week when they host Bidvest Wits at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
