Maritzburg eye Nedbank Cup last 16
29 February 2016

Maritzburg United take on NFD side Black Leopards in a Nedbank Cup last 32 encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night (19H30 kick off).

The Team of Choice’s main focus will of course be on their league campaign, the match against Lidoda Duvha offering United some respite from the Absa Premiership, as well as the chance to build some confidence and winning momentum.

Kosta Papics’ Leopards side overcame African Warriors on penalties to book their place in the last 32, where eight clubs from the NFD and eight from the SAFA lower divisions join the 16 PSL teams. Leoaprds are currently ninth in the NFD, the team winless in their last five matches.

Maritzburg approach this game on the back of a disappointing 2-1 loss to Bidvest Wits, a match which saw the Clever Boys winning the game with the last play of the match after United had shown great fighting spirit to level the match at 1-1.

Going forward this season, head coach Ernst Middendorp will be looking for more focus and organization at the back .

“When something like that happens in the last seconds, there is still a little bit of a nativity with this team.

“We have to take the performance, improve the performance, we have to work on the goals conceded, blocking the crosses, second post marking, We will work on it, move on,” he said.
