United beat Leopards to book last 16 spot
2 March 2016

Maritzburg United moved through to the next round of the 2016 Nedbank Cup after beating Black Leopards 3-1 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.

After Evans Rusike had seen his fifth minute shot saved following a bright start for the hosts, Kurt Lentjies opened the scoring in the 17th minute when he coolly sent a curling shot from out on the left into the top right hand corner of the net.

But Leopards were to hit back six minutes later when some intricate passing resulted in Roggert Nyundu netting from close range.

After the two sides exchanged chances in the early stages of the second half, Bandile Shandu put the Team of Choice back in the lead with 20 minutes to go when he finished sublimely with a chipped effort past Lidoda Duvha keeper Avhashoni Tshinuna.

Lentjies notched his brace eight minutes from time with a clinical penalty kick, sending the club through to the last 16 much to the delight of the home fans.
