We are in a league of three teams: Middendorp
10 March 2016
Maritzburg United held a media open day earlier this week ahead of the KZN derby against Lamontville Golden Arrows this coming Friday at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
This clash comes at the back of Nedbank Cup victories for both teams, and both against lower league opposition.
With Tuks having won their last league game beating Chippa United 3-0, victory for the Team of Choice will be important to make up ground, according to Head Coach, Ernst Middendorp, “This game provides us with a huge opportunity to close the gap. It’s league of three teams, with Tuks and Cosmos.” The coach made his intentions very clear saying, “We want to be in a better position with the remaining nine games after Friday.”
When the coach was asked if the Tuks victory concerned him, he replied, “I am not concerned about other teams, I am concerned about our performance from January till now. That has given us a lot of direction. I made it clear that nothing will happen in January and February,” he continued “This is a project we started in January and will go into the last two games."
The coach welcomed the 3-1 Nedbank Cup victory against Black Leopards saying “It’s always something you can use to boost the mind and to boost the confidence, there’s definitely no doubt about it.”
In-form Captain Kurt Lentjies is equally confident that results will come on Friday, “I believe we have turned the corner already. We need to stay positive and in the frame of mind that we will get results.”
The skipper says they have a good idea of what to expect from Abafana bes'Thende: “We’ve been watching every team closely which is our next opponents. It doesn’t matter that it’s a KZN derby, any opponents that come next, we need to get maximum results,” he concluded.
Tickets for the game are available at Computicket outlets as well as Maritzburg United Offices, Supersave and at OK Mini Market in College Rd at R40 for adults and R10 for Kids
The game kicks off at 8pm.
