Every point is important: Kurt Lentjies
22 March 2016
Maritzburg United could only manage a point against Chippa United last Sunday, but according to Captain Kurt Lentjies, it’s an important point.
“We went to P.E aiming for three points. The game was played with high intensity and we got off the starting blocks very well with Philani [Zulu] putting us in the lead early in the game. We could have done better, but we take the point as every point is important at this stage,” said Captain fantastic.
“The conditions were not the best, the pitch was heavy and it was quite windy, but like i said, we take the point," he added.
The next league encounter is one of two rivals coach Ernst Middendorp referred to as part of a “mini league involving Maritzburg, AmaTuks and Jomo Cosmos.”
On the 9th of April 2016, The Team of Choice take on the University of Pretoria at Harry Gwala Stadium.
“This is really a big one for us. It comes after our first league victory at home against Arrows. Winning it will take us off the bottom of the log for the first time, it’s a big one”, said the on form Captain. The fact that MUFC has a game in hand is not their focus, “ The focus is on each of the next seven games, not the game in hand. So we are taking it one game at a time," said Lentjies.
When asked about the role of the supporters who come out in numbers to support the team, he said: “Wow. Our supporters are number one in the country. The numbers at home keep increasing with each game under even with the condition we find ourselves in. I can only promise them 100% commitment to win the game on the ninth for them. They are amazing and we want to thank them by winning our remaining games,” concluded the Captain.
Maritzburg United play Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Nedbank Cup last 16 on the 2nd of April 2016, in Nelspruit.
