Maritzburg up and running with Celtic victory

Three points and a clean sheet, it was just the start Maritzburg were looking for as they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at the Dr Molema Stadium.

 

 

Team of Choice captain Kurt Lentjies and former Phunya Sele Sele midfielder netted the only goal of the game six minutes into the second half.


Maritzburg made all the early running, Celtic keeper Patrick Tignyemb hacving to make a fith minute save from Bevan Fransman, also keeping out efforts from Philani Zulu and Lentjies soon after.

 

The hosts' best chance came just before half time, United shot-stopper Virgil Vries doing superbly to keep out Lyle Lakay.

Lentjies broke the deadlock on 51 minutes when he netted from a rebound.

 

The Free State side had chances to level the game but Vries denied Kethokwakhe Masuku and then Celtic defender Alfred Ndengane fired wide from outside the box, the Team of Choice able to hold on for a hard-fought win.
