Middendorp: Team work the key to success
16 September 2016

Following a 0-0 home draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp still sees plenty of room for improvement in his side.

The Team of Choice have made a bright start to the season, picking up four points from their opening two matches.

But Middendorp is determined to ensure United do not experience last season's struggles again, and is therefore continually striving to get the best out of what he says is a squad full of 'personality and quality'.

"It's not enough," he said of the draw against Sundowns at a packed Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday. "Only one point is quite disappointing. We had more potential in the build-ups. Too many simple mistakes offering our opponents service coming into our third. We can do much, much better.

"It's not acceptable. If you have your teammate in the box in a better position, just pass and let him do the job. We don't yet have that understanding with each other. We still think individually.

"I don't want a messy season with this club again this season. That's not my standard. I want to do it right. We assembled a team with a lot of personality and quality. We can do better."
