DESCENDING ON RUSTENBURG TO DELIVER A 'SUCKER PUNCH'
14 December 2016
Maritzburg United have secured valuable seven points out of nine, having drawn one against Chippa and won two against Baroka and Pirates respectively in the last three games since stand-in coach Fadlu Davids took charge of the team following the departure of Ernst Middendorp.
The Team of Choice won their first home game this season when they disposed of The Buccaneers 2-1 on Tuesday night. Unlike the previous season when they were rooted at the bottom of the log until the last 8 minutes of the last game when they survived relegation, the team is fighting hard having secured 17 points in 13 outings.
They travel to Rustenburg this Saturday for an appointment with Platinum Stars who’s confidence must have shot high after thumping Telkom Knockout champions Cape Town City 4-0 on Tuesday night.
"Their confidence is very high, that was an emphatic win against City. This win was away in Cape Town therefore playing them in their backyard in front of their fans after such a win, will make them even more determined to prove that they mean business,” said Marketing and Communications Manager Brian Zuma.
“Our strategy is to stay very focused one game at a time. The Pirates win is history now. We are planning the demise of Dikwena. We expect these guys to come at us, so there will be a lot of “bobbing and weaving” to do and then we'll land a “sucker punch” to condemn them. They won’t know what hit them,” Zuma added.
The Team of Choice will then face tricky Bidvest Wits the following Tuesday in their last encounter before the mid-season break.
“We would like to play Santa Claus to our fans on the 20th when we play Wits. There would be no better Christmas present for them then giving the three points to thank them for their unwaivering support,” concluded Zuma.
Kick off against Platinum Stars on Saturday is 15h30 and against Wits will be 19h30.
