Mixed feelings for Davids after Pirates loss
13 April 2017
There were several positives, but also negatives, for Maritzburg United caretaker coach Fadlu Davids after the 2-0 loss to Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night.
The Team of Choice dominated large portions of the game in Orlando, even when down to 10 men for the last 30 minutes of the game.
And instead of finding what would have been a deserved equaliser, Bucs wrapped up victory with their second goal of the night 10 minutes from time.
Overall it was a frustrating night for Davids, although on the positive side he can be pleased with the spirit his team showed.
“In the first half we unlocked them three, four, five times, but if you don’t score your goals, and you concede a soft goal like we did, then you can only blame yourselves,” said the former Team of Choice marksman.
“We conceded a soft goal from a set piece, but then then we could have been three, four zero up with the chances we created.
“We really unlocked them and credit to the players. On the one hand I want to say well done to my players because they really fought. Even in the second half when we were down to 10 men, it looked like Pirates were down to 10 men.
“So on the one hand you want to say congratulations to our players; they did well. But on the other hand you have got to be more smart, more professional, in terms of not getting the second yellow card, keeping your structure. In those aspects we could have done better,” he explained.
Next up for Maritzburg is a home game against Baroka this Friday evening at the Harry Gwala Stadium, 17H00 kick off.
