THE MENTALITY HAS IMPROVED — Andrea Fillecia
3 May 2017
In the last five games Maritzburg United have won four, losing only to Orlando Pirates, collecting 12 points out of 15 in the process, a very good run by any standards.
In the ten games that Head Coach Fadlu Davids has been in charge this season, this time being the second spell after the departure of Roger De Sa, he has won six, drawn three and lost one, very good statistics.
One of the players who has worked his way back to selection is Andrea Fillecia who has been out injured for most of the season. When asked about what the contributing factor is to the good run by the club, he said, “The mentality has improved a great deal. All the players work together and believe that we can achieve our target of finishing the season in the Top Eight."
He gave credit to Davids saying “Also, Coach Fadlu works very hard to keep the team compact on and off the field. There is also a lot of preparation that takes place before every game. The Technical Team really pushes us to achieve and we go into every game with a proper game plan.”
Since returning to the side, Fillecia scored a goal against Ajax, much to his relief. “I was so happy to score. It has been a difficult year for me being on the sidelines because of injury. I had to stay mentally strong and continue to work hard to be available for selection. I want to help the team to achieve the target. My duty is to score goals and to assist teammates to score goals."
There are four games remaining for the Team of Choice before the end of the season. Among those are two away games to two of the teams contesting to win the League, Wits and Sundowns.
