FADLU DAVIDS ANNOUNCED AS MARITZBURG UNITED HEAD COACH
27 June 2017

Following several successful spells as caretaker coach, former Team of Choice marksman Fadlu Davids has officially been appointed as the Maritzburg United head coach.

Davids twice stepped up to the plate last season, and it was under his guidance that the club achieved their best ever finish in the league after claiming seventh spot last season. Overall while in charge, the Cape Town-born tactician has won six, drawn seven and lost only three of 16 matches.

Addressing the media at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday, Chairman Farook Kadodia said:

"Three seasons ago we achieved our 1st Top 8 finish but unfortunately didn't not build on that in the following season. After surviving in the most miraculous manner from relegation we were determined to go back and target a Top 8 finish this past season.

"We assembled a strong squad to compete in the 16/ 17 Season but none the less had the disruptions of two coaches resigning during the season. During this period the club had turned twice in the season to Assistant Coach Fadlu Davids as the interim coach.

"It was during this period that we saw fully the abilities of Fadlu Davids as a Head Coach.

"A club legend, club captain and now it gives me the pleasure to announce Fadlu Davids as the club's new Head Coach."

Said Davids: "It’s an honour and privilege to be given this opportunity. Its been five and a half years since I retired and started my coaching journey.

"I've had the privilege of being mentored by Ernst Middendorp and believe that I am now ready for this challenge."
