Maritzburg United sprung to life late in the game against Platinum Stars to claim a 2-0 win at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Stars enjoyed more of the play in the first half and had the opening chances through Siyabonga Zulu, whose eighth minute drive flashed past the post, before he drew a fine save from Bongani Mpandle in the 16th minute with a free kick from out on the right.

Stars defender Gift Sithole sent a 43rd minute header into the side-netting as United battled to threaten the Dikwena goal in the opening half.

Thobani Kunene went close for the home side five minutes after the interval, as his header looped just past the far post.

The Team of Choice upped their game and they were in front 15 minutes from time when a blistering counter ended with Siphesihle Ndlovu playing in Mxolisi Kunene, who drew the ball across the box for Deolin Mekoa to fire in a low shot.

Ndlovu was again provider when he slipped Lebohang Maboe in on goal in the 88th minute, Maboe showing excellent composure to take a touch before burying a low shot emphatically.
