RUSIKE HOPES TO FIRE MARITZBURG INTO THE FINAL

On a run of red-hot scoring form, Maritzburg United striker Evans Rusike may just be the man to help the Team of
Choice reach an historic first ever cup final.

Rusike and his team-mates meet SuperSport United in a second leg MTN8 semi-final match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday night (20H15), the first leg having ended 1-1 after a late Lebohang Maboe equaliser.

The Zimbabwean international marksman has bagged numerous spectacular goals, many of them crucial goals as well, in his two previous seasons with the Team of Choice.

Indeed, he lists the goals he scored against Jomo Cosmos two seasons ago to help United escape relegation in the final game of the season as his most memorable for the PMB outfit.

And the 27-year-old has also begun the current campaign with a bang, scoring the winner against Mamelodi Sundowns in the first MTN8 match, as well as netting twice in the league.

He’ll be itching to get on the score-sheet against Matsatsantsa on Saturday night, and says the build-up to the match has been positive for Fadlu Davids’ side.

“The mood in the camp has been great this week, we are aware of how important this game is for the club, for the fans, for the players, even for the province of KZN.

“We have started this season where we ended last season and it’s important to keep working hard to maintain our standards. The new players that have come in have fitted in very well very quickly and will being new dimensions,” said the 27-year-old.

“The young players have also added a lot to the team. They bring lots of energy to the team, that feeling of youthfulness. It really lifts all the players to have their energy around and it ensures that the senior players stay on their toes.

“SuperSport are a big club with history and they have won trophies. We’ve made it to two semi-finals before, but never to a final, so as players we are determined to change that and help Maritzburg create their own history.

“We started slowly in the first half and only really played in the second half. Maybe it was because we had played three matches in a week. But this time we’ll be fresh, we need to take that same energy and vibe from the second half in Pretoria into Saturday’s match at the Harry Gwala Stadium,” Rusike concluded.
