MEKOA UPBEAT AHEAD OF STARS CLASH

Maritzburg United attacking midfielder Deolin Mekoa is confident the Team of Choice are in good form and will soon
return to winning ways.

The boys put in two excellent performances last week against Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at the Harry Gwala Stadium, dishing out some scintillating football in front of their home fans.

But their final touch in front of goal, and the little bit of luck often needed, eluded coach Fadlu Davids’ side as they managed only one point from the two games after a 0-0 draw with Pirates and a 2-0 defeat to Chiefs.

Looking ahead to this Friday’s home clash against Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership, Mekoa is optimistic the KZN Capital City side are on the right track.

“I’m not disappointed, you could see how the guys were pushing in the second half, but unfortunately we couldn’t score against Chiefs.

“These things happen in football. We tried, we pushed, everyone did their best. For the next game we’ll just have to increase our efforts even more so we can stay on top. I think we’re playing good football and I’m happy with the team,” Mekoa explained.

“We’ll learn from [the Chiefs match] and take it to our next game against Free State Stars,” he continued. “We’ll watch their games and see their strengths and weaknesses. But we’ll also play our own game I’m sure. We’re deadly on the counter.”

And when asked if the current Team of Choice side is the best he has been a part of since arriving four seasons ago, the 24-year-old replied in the affirmative: “Yes, it’s the best I’ve seen so far, this season I hope we can win some silverware.”

The match against Ea Lla Koto is scheduled for an 8pm kick off at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday.
