BEVAN UPBEAT UNDER FADLU'S CHARGE

Maritzburg United defender Bevan Fransman is enjoying working in the professional
environment coach Fadlu Davids has created.

After previously working as assistant and caretaker coach at the Team of Choice, coach Fadlu took charge on a permanent basis ahead of the current season and has forged together a team that has delivered an exciting brand of football.

As Fransman explains, it’s all about the hard work and preparation which goes on behind the scenes.

“When I joined Bloemfontein Celtic, Fadlu was there, together with Ernst Middendorp. He did his mentorship under Ernst and he’s really coaching in a very professional manner,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender.

“His preparation for each game is spot on, second to none. Together with the technical team…the way he prepares, lays the team out, prepare the guys.

“The way our game-plan is set out in the build-up to a game usually always comes into effect and helps us give teams a hard time,” Fransman added.

After the Team of Choice made a breath-taking start to the season, earning much praise for the style of football they dished up, results have not been forthcoming in the last few matches.

Fransman hopes the team’s younger players will grow from the experience and put to good use the lessons learnt.

“Sometimes you can become a victim of your success, and for the younger guys, the sooner they can understand that, the better,” he explained.

“If you set the bar high you have to keep it there. So yes, it’s tricky. And teams are getting smarter and planning for our style of play. Not every game will be the same and you have to manage games well.

“It’s a bit of a reality check. Now the main thing is to get back to collecting points in this early part of the season. “It’s only the first few steps of our league run. We can be pleased to a point, but we can’t sit back - we haven’t arrived or done anything yet, we have nothing to show for it so far,” he added.

Maritzburg are next in action when they play Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on October 18.
