FADLU HAS UNITED AS READY AS POSSIBLE

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids talks us through the mood in the camp as we get set for the
Absa Premiership clash away to Chippa United on Wednesday night.

Coach Fadlu has the difficult task of trying to prepare the players to get down to business barely a week after the tragic death of promising young Team of Choice midfielder Mlondi Dlamini in a car accident which happened the Sunday before last.

“Of course the players are still in shock, we all still can’t believe it. We managed to have some training sessions in between the memorial and the funeral. But it’s been quite a hectic emotional roller-coaster, up and down,” coach Fadlu said.

“We also failed to get a postponement from the PSL. But now it’s up to the players to try and focus on the game on Wednesday. Not good, not bad in terms of preparation, the players have been quite focused on training,” he added.
The Team of Choice tactician feels that getting out on the park is for some players the best option in such trying times.

“When you have a moment to spare you’re sad, emotional, but once on the field, it’s a bit easier to focus on the game, your mind is busy. That is where the players love being – on the pitch, and that is what we are trying to use now to get be focussed for the next game.

“I hope that the players will cope. For everybody it’s different, some players want to get on with it, for others it’s too soon, too emotional. We have to see which players are ready and which are not. The game is put in front of us and all we can do is try to get a positive result.”

Commenting on what he is expecting from the Chilli Boys, coach Fadlu said: “They still have the element of [previous coach] Dan Malasela in their play, intricate build-ups. The new coach has tried to bring in some more directness. A tricky encounter we face.”

While midfielder Devon Saal is side-lined through injury, Kenyan defender Brian Onyango makes a welcome return to fitness.

“Brian will be a huge boost, his presence in the team, he is a quality player,” concluded the coach.
