MDLULI: WE'RE READY TO SOLDIER ON

MultiChoice Diski Challenge head coach Siya Mdluli shares his thoughts with us as the Maritzburg
United Reserve side return to action this weekend.

Having had last weekend's match postponed due to the untimely passing of regular MDC player Mlondi Dlamini, the Team of Choice face Chippa United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday morning (10am).

Mdluli says it's been a difficult week for his young side, but is hopeful they can find th inner strength to deal with the situation as best possible.

"Mlondi was a very promising young player, taking some big steps in his life, a very talented player. It came It was a shock. The young players take it the hardest, they have been together for a long period, coming together from school and everything.

"But they have managed to show good maturity, from what I've seen in training. They looked positive, Yes, there were those moments on the field when you think, 'we needed Mlondi in that situation'.

"We have to deal with the situation, we have a task ahead and we must soldier on."

Maritzburg are currently fifth on the table, but just two points off the summit, and with a game in hand. Mdluli has cautioned however at getting toofixated on the table.

"We are not thinking about the standings, we are just thinkig about the result," he said. "If you start thinking about the log, you can get the shock of your lives. We have to put this thinking and the thoughts of the week out of our minds, and focus on the match."

Looking at the longer term picture though, there is no denying the Team of Choice's success in the MDC.

"As you can see we ended in the top five for the past two seasons and again started this season on a good note. That is a sign of consistency, this started long time ago, now we are seeing the fruit of the seeds that were planted," coach Siya explained.

"There is great supoport from the technical team of the first team. Everyone is on board with the philosophy and the players coming to the MDC team from the first team undertand exaclty what is required."

On Saturday's game, the coach is bracing for a tough challenge:

"Chippa is a tricky team, they like to play a short-passing game. We will certainly respect them, but if we focus on our structure, I'm sure we can get the three points at the end of the day."
