MAKARINGE TARGETS TKO REVIVAL

Fortune Makaringe says the Telkom Knockout match against Platinum Stars gives Maritzburg United
the chance to get back on track to achieve their goals.

The Team of Choice were close to making it to the MTN8 final before succumbing to SuperSport United in the semis. Since then, United’s form in the league has tapered off, making a win against Stars at the Harry Gwala Stadium all the more important.

Makaringe feels that Maritzburg have not been performing poorly, and is looking at the showdown with Dikwena as an opportunity to show that the team are on the right path.

“We’ve been unfortunate with the results lately, so coming to Friday’s game, it gives us a chance to redeem ourselves,” the 24-year-old midfielder said.

“We must make sure we win this one. We are aware that if we’re not winning, we can get ourselves into a difficult situation, So in our minds, we want to win at all costs. We have to keep believing in ourselves, doing the things we have been doing right and I believe the results will come.

“If we can win in the Cup on Friday, it can help to bring back our confidence, and help us to get on a winning streak like we were earlier in the season. We haven’t won in our backyard for a while, we need to do it for our fans,” he added.

While the Team of Choice have their objectives, Makaringe cautioned against taking lightly a Stars side which are yet to win in nine league matches this season and whom United beat 2-0 in the league at the start of the campaign.

“Everyone is highly motivated. One of our targets this season is to reach a cup final. Unfortunately we missed out in the MTN8, so now this is another great opportunity for us to get our ambitions back on track.

“Of course Stars will have a similar idea to us, so we’re aware this will be a difficult game and that we’re going to have to work and fight hard for victory.”
