MOKATE FEELING POSITIVE GOING INTO TKO ENCOUNTER

Maritzburg United striker Mohau Mokate is ready to bang in the goals for Maritzburg United should
be called upon by head coach Fadlu Davids.

The Team of Choice face Platinum Stars in a Telkom Knockout last 16 match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night, 8pm kick off.

It’s been a tough few weeks for United after the passing away of midfielder Mlondi Dlamini as well as a somewhat barren spell in front of goals.

Mokate, who netted five league goals last term, is yet to score for United in the top flight this season, but has been amongst the goals in the MDC.

The 26-year-old says that under coach Fadlu, a former Team of Choice marksman himself, he is feeling confident that his game is developing positively.

“It’s a matter of waiting for my chance, and when I get it, I must grab it with both hands,” said Mohau.

“I’ve been working very hard at training with my finishing and I believe that I’m ready to score goals, if selected.

He’s always motivating us, he’s like a father to us, like a brother to us. It’s been easy for me to work with him because he used to be a striker, he’s always giving me tips, telling me how to be in the right position to score. Even after training, he helps me, shows me how to make my runs, its helping me a lot.”

Looking around the Maritzburg camp, Mokate says he gets the feeling that everyone is pulling hard towards making sure there is a cup victory to celebrate on Friday night.

“After what we’ve been through the last few weeks, we have worked hard at training and I believe we are in good shape for the Platinum Stars game,” he said.

“The game against Chippa (a 0-0 draw in the league), we showed good character. This is a big game for us, because we wanted to play in two finals this season, so that can start on Friday. The fans expect goals and that’s our aim for Friday, to show them what we are capable of.

“It felt good to make it to the semi-finals of the MTN8, now we want to take the next step and feel what it’s like going to a final. The Telkom Knockout, you only play three games and you are in the final.”

The Maritzburg boys are however wary of underestimating a Dikwena side which is sitting bottom of the table.

“In the cup, it’s a different story. Playing against coach Roger De Sa, whose side like to put in those dangerous crosses, we are expecting a tough match,” Mokate concluded.
