Maritzburg United claimed a point after holding league champions Bidvest Wits to a 0-0 draw
at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

Wits had the first chance of the game but Gerald Phiri’s free-kick from the edge of the box was smashed over.

Bevan Fransman tried a spectacular long ranger on 13 minutes, but Clever Boys keeper Darren Keet pushed the ball over the goal.

Fransman was even closer 10 minutes later when his header was deflected onto the crossbar off the head of Steven Pienaar while at the other end Daine Klate was inches away from scoring.

Bandile Shandu and Mxolisi Kunene also had chances for the Team of Choice before half time, but were unable to hit the target.

Maritzburg continued to threaten after half time as both Evans Rusike and Yazid Atouba had efforts on goal, the latter drawing a brilliant save by Keet.

The visiting side then had chances as Thulani Hlatshwayo forced Richard Ofori into his first save of the game before Eleazar Rodgers' header hit the bar.

Ofori also did superbly to deny Thabang Monare before Phiri went close late on in the game.
