With both clubs in the bottom half of the table it was always going to be a tight encounter, and as coach Fadlu pointed out, a virtual ‘six-pointer’.
“If you analyse the game, there were a lot of long-balls, second balls, being prepared to pick up the second ball and try make something form it,” Fadlu said.
“I think if you take both teams, the only danger was set pieces. We hit the post in the first half, perhaps, we could have scored. But I think the draw was a fair result. Yes, we took some risks but it didn’t pay off, not really good enough in the final third.”
The Team of Choice have conceded only five times in 11 league matches this season – SuperSport have let in four goals, but they have only played five matches. No side has conceded fewer. But at the other end of the park, our goal-scoring issue are an obvious one.
“It should be taken into account also that this is the youngest squad Maritzburg have had – 23.06 average age, and if you are not scoring the confidence drops,” Fadlu explained.
“You can’t say it’s for a lack of effort, in this game and the Polokwane game – the boys really gave their all, in terms of the fight. It’s just not falling for them at the moment but we have to keep believing.
“We have to lift them, encourage them to keep going in the right direction. Once that goal comes, I’m sure like at the beginning of the season, when we rode that wave. Now they are feeling the pressure of not being able to score. We remain behind them 100 percent, pushing them, motivating them, showing them in the video…they will get it right. I’m confident in the boys, I know they will do it,” he added.
