FADLU: STARS MASTERS AT GOBLE PARK

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids knows his side are up for a tough encounter when they take on
Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership game at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Team of Choice saw a two match winning run ended with a 0-1 midweek defeat to SuperSport United.

Free State Stars didn’t play in the week; their last game was a 1-0 win over Cape Town City the previous weekend, a result which took the on-form Ea Lla Koto up to second spot on the standings.

Maritzburg meanwhile are in seventh position, just four points behind Saturday’s opponents.

Coach Fadlu knows his side will need to be fired up to come out with a positive result from a tough away venue in Bethlehem.

“They are the masters at Goble Park,” said the Maritzburg tactician. “They beat teams 1-0, they wait for their moments and that’s what it’s about over there. A really tough team, they’ve done very well with the squad they have and they deserve to be where they are.

“They wait for their moments, counter attacking they are probably one of the best in the league. Very similar to what we experienced (against SuperSport), waiting for their moments and hitting you on the counter attack in the wide areas.”

In 19 previous encounters between the sides, Maritzburg have won only three, with Ea Lla Koto claiming eight victories and a three draws.

Last season’s corresponding game brought a 1-1 draw, while Stars beat the Team of Choice 1-0 in Pietermaritzburg earlier this season.

n. Consistency is always the challenge, with a side like SuperSport, they know how to manage themselves. With our youngsters, they play all out and when it’s not their day they don’t manage their thinking.

“But its lessons to be learnt, we’ll get better, we have to analyse it and bounce back for the Free State Stars game. Let’s be honest, SuperSport assembled this team to win the league and you can’t compare the squads. Yes, it’s disappointing but not the end of the world. We have to learn from it, that’s the most important thing.

“We’re building something here in terms of our playing style, we have to stick to our principles and stick to what we believe in. We said at the start of this season that the top eight is our target and I believe we’re still on track for where we want to be.”

The Team of Choice are next in action when they take on high-flying Free State Stars at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon (3-30pm).
