TEAM OF CHOICE WIN IN BETHLEHEM

Maritzburg United upset Absa Premiership high-flyers Free State Stars in their own backyard with a 3-0 win at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon.

There was an early setback for the Team of Choice when captain Bevan Fransman was forced off through injury, although to his credit, young defender Rushine De Reuck proved to be an excellent replacement.

Stars had the opening chances as Thabo Maphakisa fired over the bar from distance before Maritzburg keeper Richard Ofori denied Harris Tchilimbou from close range.

The KZN side got their breakthrough moments after half time when Andrea Fileccia converted what was his second goal in three games, getting on the score-sheet against his former team.

Ofori did well to keep out Bangaly Keita before Fadlu Davids’ side increased their lead through Evans Rusike, who turned smartly before firing home from long range, following a pass from Siphelele Ndlovu.

With Stars trying to get back into the game, spaces opened up in their defence and United capitalised in superb fashion when Bandile Shandu emphatically fired in their third goal late on.
