As the Chairman explains, there are often complications when bringing in new players mid-season and he says that the Pietermaritzburg team will carefully weigh up the pros and cons of any possible new arrivals.
“I made it clear, and obviously this is something we discussed with the coach, that we don’t need to go out aggressively in this transfer window. One reason is that there is no break for AFCON, so there is not really time for players to come here get match fit.
“We felt that it was not the right time to go to the market and we will focus more on the players we have.
“There are one or two positions which we need to bolster, so we might fly under the radar with a few signings. I don’t think we’re in a crisis stage, but there are one or two players that we need and if they’re available and it suits us then we’ll look at it,” Kadodia added.
In terms of the players that have brought in, the Team of Choice will have to wait a while before left-back Bokang Thlone can make his debut, due to an unfortunate injury.
“We signed Thlone from Wits but unfortunately that didn’t work out immediately and we’ll have to wait for him to regain his fitness,” Kadodia explained. “Left back position has always been a problem over the years – since Ruben Cloete left us we have not have anyone there permanently as first choice.
“We’re hoping that the two boys coming up from the MDC League will challenge for places in the first team and add depth, we do have fairly thin squad.”
The latest two players to be promoted from Maritzburg’s highly successful academy which the Chairman was referring to are Ujaun Mcdonald and Lindokuhle Sithole.
Both players are 18-years-old, Mcdonald an attacking midfielder, while Sithole is ‘a number 8 or number 6’, a more defensive-minded midfielder who does also push up in attack.
Thlone can’t wait to get into the action and is eager to make an impact at his new club.
“I’m very excited to join the Team of Choice. I have watched them play quite a few games this season and they have been playing a very exciting brand of football which appeals to me,” he said.
Head coach Fadlu Davids is also optimistic about what the new left-sided full-back will bring to the team once he’s ready to go.
“Getting in a left-footer in Thlone gives us a bit more balance in our thinking and flexibility,” said Fadlu.
“Bokang is an attacking full-back who likes to move forward, making overlapping runs. He’ll give us something we haven’t had over the last few seasons.”
In another development, attacking midfielder Devon Saal has been loaned out to NFD outfit Stellenbosch FC.
