MABOE TARGETS ‘HOME WIN FOR THE FANS’

Maritzburg United playmaker Lebohang Maboe wants to give the Team of Choice supporters reason to smile on Friday night by securing victory against Chippa United.

The Absa Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium is set for an 8pm kick off and sees United going into the encounter in fifth position on the table with 27 points, after three wins from their last four matches. Chippa are eighth, three points back.

However, the Team of Choice’s most recent home game ended in a 0-1 defeat to SuperSport and Maboe is keen for his side to return to winning ways in the KwaZulu-Natal capital city.

“Chippa They have got a very good defensive record (the Chilli Boys have conceded 11 goals, the second best record in the league – Maritzburg top the list with only 10 conceded).

“It’s going to be hard playing against them, but we are determined to make our supporters happy – we’ve won quite a lot of our games away and we want to improve on our home record – we have to get the three points for our supporters,” said the 23-year-old, who has played in all 18 of United’s league matches this term.

Another positive for Maboe is the improved goal-scoring form Maritzburg have shown in 2018.

“It’s confidence in the final third, it’s about believing how good you are,” he explained. “Once you believe that, the confidence comes, and I think that’s where our strikers are right now, the way they have been playing this year. And the good thing also is that all of the strikers are scoring, so it makes for good competition.”

Commenting on his own contribution, the skilful midfielder playmaker feels that he’s become a marked man for opposition sides but plans to work hard to stay ahead.

“I feel like teams sometimes plan to make it tough for me, so I feel I need to always up my game, to see how I can improve my performances. I want to get myself in good positions to receive the ball in space so I can penetrate and help my team moving forward, as well as helping them in defence. I’ll find a solution for it and keep working hard.”

Overall, Maboe is upbeat about the direction he feels the side is heading in under coach Fadlu Davids and the technical team.

“I still believe there is more to come from us and we can better our log position. The important thing is to keep on fighting, working hard, staying humble, giving 100 percent in each and every game, that’s what will win us games. We must keep pushing in the same direction, which we are doing very well right now,” he concluded.
