The Team of Choice scored first through Evans Rusike in the 64th minute in Pietermaritzburg, but Mxolisi Macuphu grabbed a point for the Chilli Boys with a 72nd minute equaliser.
“I think it was fantastic performance up until we conceded a goal, but we should have wrapped up the game in the first half,” was coach Fadlu’s assessment.
“I wanted a good performance and I got a good performance. Chippa had one moment where they got a penalty and that was the only dangerous moment in the first half. They got the penalty and we saved it.
“We gave the ball away [for the goal] and after that my players didn’t control their thinking in terms of the three points being lost. There was still enough time to come back.
“They had opportunities after scoring the equaliser where we let them back in the game. We have to work on that.”
It was some hesitation in the Team of Choice defence, the PSL’s best this season, which led to Chippa scoring, but coach Fadlu feels it would be unfair to apportion any individual blame.
“We had three points in the bag, the ball was flat and they wanted to kick it out, but we have to support the youngster (Rushine De Reuck). We have to lift his head because he is a fantastic player, 21-year-old in central defence, he did a great job and moments like those do happen and he shouldn’t drop his head.”
Maritzburg now turn their attention to Saturday, when they face on-form Orlando Pirates in Soweto.
