FADLU: IT'S ABOUT THE PROCESS

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids has spoken glowingly of his young side’s efforts against Orlando
Pirates in Soweto on Saturday night.

The Team of Choice went down 1-2 to a star-studded Bucs side, who are currently second on the table. But they showed plenty of character and fighting spirit after recovering from two goals down to really make Pirates sweat for their win as the Buccaneers were forced to endure a late onslaught from Maritzburg.

“My boys passed the test, I’m extremely proud of them. They showed here at the Orlando Stadium. First 15 minutes we dominated, only to concede a set-piece against the run of play. And the second goal, another free kick just after half time,” said coach Fadlu.

“But an unbelievable performance. Pirates with a five defence line, they brought on another defender, another defender. In terms of Maritzburg’s performance, in terms of their attitude, it was absolutely fantastic. As Maritzburg United Football Club, we have got to be proud of these boys.

“I don’t take the result, I go in the change-room and tell them ‘absolutely fantastic’. Because we are on the right track, it’s about the process, they will get better, next season we’ll be a better team, with more experience. But if you can come here to Orlando Stadium and do what we did, unbelievable, I’m so proud of them,” the Team of Choice mentor concluded.

Next up for coach Fadlu and his men is a Nedbank Cup last 32 match, away to Swallows FC at the Dobsonville Stadium this Saturday afternoon.
