The game at the Harry Gwala Stadium is set for an 8pm kick off.
“We are working as hard as we can to get a good result on Friday,” Makaringe told the Team of Choice’s official website.
“It won’t be easy. We were in that position two seasons ago. When you’re bottom-of-the-log, every game is like a cup final. So they are going to be coming fired up, they need results desperately.
“They upset us recently in the Telkom Knockout recently, we know the calibre of team they are. We have to approach the game like our others – go out there and fight for the result,” he added.
With United playing first on the weekend, victory on Friday could potentially boost them into second position on the table, for at least a day.
Makaringe, who is quickly establishing himself as a central midfield playmaker of note, says it’s important though not to get carried away and to maintain focus.
“Judging from how we have been playing I’m actually not surprised the team has been doing well, from the technical team to the players, we always prepare ourselves properly and when we get on the field of play we apply what we have been working on in the week. It’s not something we can be complacent about, we must keep doing what has been working for us.
“When I reflect on our goals before the season, we actually aimed for a top eight spot, or a bit better than last season, like sixth. To be in the top six, top five, is a good improvement for us and will be a good achievement for us. But we still need to grind out the results, so I don’t want to put too much pressure on us, but yes as players we have goals and want to achieve something big.”
In closing, Makaringe underlined the importance of Siphesihle Ndlovu’s achievement in scooping the January Player of the Month award, a first ever for the club and recognition not only of their good form, but of the quality of player being developed at Maritzburg.
“He’s made us really happy, seeing a player like Ndlovu who is really doing well. It also shows that we are doing great as a team. For us it’s a big honour, congratulations to Siphesihle Ndlovu, he really deserves it.”
