MARITZBURG PREPARE TO DO BATTLE WITH MATSATSANTSA

Maritzburg United are expecting SuperSport United to come out fighting when they clash in an Absa Premiership fixture at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday evening.

This is according to midfielder Lebohang Maboe, who points out that despite Maritzburg’s good form of late and SuperSport’s inconsistencies, the Pretoria club have already beaten the Team of Choice twice this season.

“SuperSport beat us here at home when we played them in the first round of the league, plus they beat us in the MTN8," he said.
"We’ve really got to work even harder now, playing at their home ground. All of us know what a game we are in for on Saturday, and we are ready to work hard.

“We’re not expecting them to come out trying to play fancy football – they’re at a position when anything will do for them to get a result.

"They will be coming out fighting, especially after the loss to Ajax earlier this week. But we also want the win, so it could be a big battle on Saturday."

A certain amount of confidence, together with level heads and hard graft, are the key ingredients for continued success, says Maboe, the man who provides the creative spark and attacking impetus for the Team of Choice.

“Being 1-0 down against Platinum Stars last weekend and coming back like that to win 2-1, it shows the hard work we’re putting in duirng every session and the belief we have. So that gives us confidence, but it’s important we also remain humble,” he said.

“It’s not about individuals, but us as a team, all pulling in the same direction, and that is what helps us win games. We’re like family, we all motivate one another, help one another.

“At training the energy is electrifying, we train the way play, we play the way we train. Everyone wants to work hard, because everyone wants to make the squad, to earn his jersey.

“The coach always tells us to keep our feet on the ground and take things game by game. We don’t worry about the match that we’re going to play the week after next, we are just worried about the one in front of us,” Maboe concluded.

SuperSport have not won in three league games and are just three points above the relegation zone, while Maritzburg are in fourth position, although the table will count for little in this crucial phase of the season where everyone is battling for points.

Saturday’s match in Attridgeville kicks off at 18H00 and will be shown live on channel 204.
