MABOE HEADS TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

After two fruitful seasons at Maritzburg United, Lebogang Maboe is set to leave the club. The Team of Choice has agreed a deal with Mamelodi Sundowns for the services of the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.

Maboe progressed tremdously at the club, helping Maritzburg to a highest ever, fourth place finish in the league and claim the runners-up spot in the Nedbank Cup last season.

Under coach Fadlu Davids, Maboe was granted creative license and flourished in the heart of midfield.

He created, scored crucial goals in the league, while his exploits in the Nedbank Cup saw him win the Most Promising Player and Player of the Tournament accolades at the PSL awards last season.

“We wish Lebo all the best at Sundowns. This is a good platform for him to elevate his career and continue to progress,” Club chairman, Farook Kadodia said.

“He has been a good ambassador and I believe he would have stayed at the club but every player has ambitions,” he added.

Kadodia says after ongoing negotiations with the player, both parties reached a mutual agreement.

“It is difficult to refuse an offer like that. I think there was a bit of pressure on his shoulders and eventually we had to grant him his wish.”

Maboe’s impressive form also saw him called up to the Bafana Bafana squad where he made his debut during the COSAFA Cup earlier this year.

“We are proud to say that he was inspired and pushed at the Team of Choice. The Maritzburg fans demand a lot of our players and we are happy to have helped to develop him,” Kadodia said.
