MTN8 QUARTER-FINAL TREAT LOOMS

Maritzburg United goalkeeper, Richard Ofori believes the club's MTN8 quarter-final at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday afternoon is the perfect opportunity to turn around their fortunes.

The Team of Choice have endured a challenging start to the 2018/19 campaign with defeats to Golden Arrows and Free State Stars in the league.

The Ghana International says while results have not gone their way, the team can build on their performances.

"This game is very important for the club, Ofori said.

He continued, "Now it looks like we are struggling but no, we are playing well, we created a lot of chances of which we are not scoring so we need to focus and calm down. This game is very important for the team and for the players as well. "

United know what to expect from a Cape Town City side that have grown tremendously under the guidance of coach, Benni McCarthy.

"They are doing well this season, they lost their previous game but they are playing well. They are a very good team, very experienced players so it's a very tough game for us. We have played two games but we haven't got any points so this cup game is very important to bounce back," Ofori said.

With just ninety-minutes separating both sides from a place in the semi-final, Ofori says the team understands the value of winning this clash.

"In football we know history counts. But this cup game is a different thing all together. It's not a league game where you think maybe you play a second round, if you lose you are out," Ofori said.

"You know one thing about football, sometimes you make your mind up that you are going to win and then things fall apart. So we need to be focused, try to win the game and at the end of the day we need to be victorious,"he added.

In last season’s two league encounters, Maritzburg beat Cape Town City 4-2 in Durban (the game was moved from the Mother City due to drought) and drew 1-1 at home in Pietermaritzburg.
