HARD WORK AHEAD FOR TEAM OF CHOICE

Maritzburg United picked up their first point of the 2018/19 ABSA Premiership campaign with a hard fought draw against Kaizer Chiefs last Friday.

The team now has a lengthy break before they return to competitive action against Bidvest Wits at home on 15 September.

United right-back, Pogiso Sanoka says the result against the Amakhosi is exactly what the team needed after a slow start to the campaign.

Sanoka and his team mates faced an uphill battle against the Soweto giants after influential midfielder, Siphesihle Ndlovu was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Siyabonga Ngezana in the 13th minute.

Refusing to back down, Fadlu Davids side put on a gritty performance for the remainder of the match in front of a sold out Harry Gwala Stadium.

"I think with one player down we kept our minds strong. We did everything that the team had to do. We only focused on not conceding because in our three previous games we conceded like 2 goals a game, Sanoka said.

It is a point that gives the club a foundation to build on ahead of the visit of Gavin Hunt’s, Wits next month.

"I think for us the season will kick start now,” Pogiso said.

He continued, “From three games, one point is not enough but from this game we can take a lot out of it going forward. It was really a good fight from everyone. I think it will build confidence in each and every player going forward," Sanoka added.
Under Davids the technical team have put together a stringent programme over the next few weeks.

The club will also play a few friendly games to keep match fit.
