COACH FADLU EXCITED ABOUT HOME-GROWN TRIO’S POTENTIAL

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids is enthusiastic about the prospects of the latest three locally-born players to be promoted to the first team, Thembinkosi Mkhize, Njabulo Hlela and Siyanda Mbatha.

The trio are the most recent in an increasingly long line of players from the surrounding region to have been given an opportunity at PSL level as the Team of Choice adheres to our development philosophy of nurturing local young talent into becoming successful footballers.

Coach Fadlu gives us some insight as to why he thinks the three rookies are ones to keep an eye on in the months and years ahead:

Thembinkosi Mkhize - 19

Thembinkosi is a holding midfielder. He was been playing MultiChoice Diski last season and of course he has been training with us all this time.

He is a very intelligent player in the midfield area. He is able to play in different positions as well. He has shown he has leadership skills at such a young age.

He is mature and can command the midfield area or even if he plays in defence, he has definitely shown that he is ready to take the step into the Premier Soccer League. He is in matric this year so we have to give him time to focus on his studies until the end of the year and then he will continue training with us. He did a full pre-season with us and also went on camp with us but now has to focus on school. He trains with us whenever he can in the afternoons.

Njabulo Hlela - 23 years old

Jabu is a signing from Maritzburg City. Of course they are known for producing top players in the past, you also have to give them credit for that.

He is an attacking left footed player, he can play in the pure number 10 role and also on the right hand side or left hand side as well. He is an attacking player that has the skills for what we look to play in the number 10 role between the lines.

Both Njabulo and Mkhize have been promoted within the club's structure.

Siyanda Mbatha - 19 years old

He has been with us for a year, played one season in the Castle League and also featured in the MDC. Siyanda trained with the first team at the end of last season and did a full pre-season.

He is a holding midfielder but is able to play at left or right full back. A versatile player similar to Sphesihle Ndlovu, Siyanda is able to play in many positions and understands the tactical roles in those positions. He is a player that suits our style.

I'm sure all three of them will soon be seen in the first team making their PSL debuts in the near future.

It is very important for us to produce and promote these young players of Maritzburg and that is why we are extremely excited to sign these three boys.

It fits within the philosophy of the club to give the youth of Maritzburg a chance to play for the club and we are really proud to unveil these three players who will definitely be the cornerstone of Maritzburg United in the future.
