TEAM OF CHOICE HOLD LOG LEADERS TO A DRAW

Maritzburg United had to settle for a 0-0 draw in their Absa Premiership clash with Bidvest Wits at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Team of Choice’s best chances came in a fast and physical first half, while the Clever Boys were more of a threat in the second stanza.

The first opening arrived in the seventh minute when Pogiso Sanoka sent a header wide from a corner kick.

Home striker Andrea Fileccia then did well to cut into the box on 11 minutes, but his shot could not beat visiting keeper Darren Keet.

Keet then kept United off the score-sheet in the 17th minute when he reacted well to keep out a well-hit first-time shot from Rushine De Reuck following a Keletso Makgalwa free kick.

Makgalwa was a real thorn on the flesh of the Students’ defence in the opening half and he brought out another two saves from Keet in the minutes leading up to the break.

The game remained balanced on a knife-edge in the opening stages of the second half before Maritzburg came close to scoring on the hour mark when Deolin Mekoa let rip with a scorcher, but Keet was up to the task with a fine save.

The Clever Boys were next to attack as Deon Hotto crossed for Mxolisi Macuphu, but Team of Choice stopper keeper Richard Ofori make a brilliant reflex save from close range.

More chances followed for Wits as Simon Murray sent a volley over the bar, before Gift Motupa also shot over.

United were nearly able to secure a late victory when substitute Mohau Mokate went through on goal in added time, but once again Keet did well to rush off his line to make the block as the Team of Choice had to settle for the draw.
