MARITZBURG DISKI TEAM HOPE TO BUILD ON FIRST POINT

Maritzburg United's MultiChoice Diski Challenge finally team notched up their first point of the season this past weekend.

After a tough start to the campaign, a win would have been ideal but it was a huge boost to get the first point on the board when they secured a goalless draw against the reigning champions Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Harry Gwala Stadium this past weekend.

Head coach Siya Mdluli hopes his team can now look for some upward momentum.

“It could have been better, obviously we wanted the three points. I am happy with the performance, the players they showed character and resilience," he said. "We could have won the game, a lot of positives, creating a lot of scoring opportunities.”

United were reduced to ten men in the second half but showed resilience as they matched Arrows and held out for a point in the end.

“Tactically we were very disciplined, we didn’t open the centre," Mdluli explained. "We forced them wide and the way we defended was very good. Nevertheless even though we were one man down, we created chances and I am happy with the point.”

The Team of Choice Asidlali team will now be on the road as they make the trip to face Bidvest Wits this coming weekend.

Mdluli added: “We must not get carried away with this first point. We will build from what we have, try and sharpen up in the final third and prepare for the game against Bidvest Wits which won’t be easy especially away from home. We have to manipulate things there and there. Try and steal a positive result to bring back with us.”

The game between United and Wits will take place on Saturday at 10h00 at the Bidvest Stadium.
