ROUND-UP: OUR PLAYERS ON INTERNATIONAL DUTY

Maritzburg United had no less than four players depart for International duty during the FIFA break.

Goalkeeper Richard Ofori, defender Brian Onyango, promising new signing Justice Figareido and club captain Siyanda Xulu all represented their respective countries in crunch African Cup of Nations qualifiers over the weekend.

Ofori’s game for Ghana against Sierra Leone was cancelled as a result of the Leone Stars not meeting the conditions for the lifting of a FIFA-imposed suspension of the country’s Football Association.

Elsewhere, Onyango and Kenya booked their place in the next round of the competition with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Ethiopia at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

Xulu, meanwhile, was an unused substitute in Bafana Bafana’s 6-0 drubbing of the Seychelles on Saturday. He will once again be part of the squad to travel for the reverse fixture on Tuesday afternoon.

Finally, Figareido was called up to the Swaziland national side for only the second time and impressed in their 4-1 loss away to Egypt. Figariedo and company will now welcome the Pharoahs to Swaziland for the reverse fixture, also on Tuesday.

The boys will return home on Wednesday and go straight into preparation for United’s Telkom Knockout last 16 clash against Highlands Park this Saturday.

Kick-off is at 20h15 at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
